Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mansour Afshar-Mohammadian | Surface Science | Research Excellence Award
University of Guilan | Iran
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mansour Afshar-Mohammadian is a highly respected academic and researcher whose expertise lies at the intersection of surface science, plant eco-physiology, and environmental surface interactions, with a strong emphasis on understanding how surface structures and modifications influence biological and environmental processes. His research focuses on surface-level phenomena in plant systems, including leaf surface morphology, epicuticular waxes, stomatal structures, gas exchange behavior, and surface-mediated stress responses. Through an integrative scientific approach, he has made substantial contributions to understanding how surface characteristics regulate transpiration, photosynthesis, antioxidant activity, and resistance to biotic and abiotic stressors. His work extends to applied surface science in agricultural and environmental contexts, such as pollutant interaction with plant surfaces, biosorption mechanisms, wastewater remediation using biological surfaces, and surface-driven nutrient and metal uptake. Dr. Afshar-Mohammadian has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and scholarly books covering plant surface physiology, environmental stress biology, antioxidant systems, and sustainable agricultural practices, reflecting both scientific depth and practical relevance. In addition to his research accomplishments, he has played a significant role in academic leadership, curriculum development, and graduate supervision, contributing to capacity building in surface and environmental sciences. His interdisciplinary perspective enables him to bridge surface chemistry, biology, and environmental engineering, fostering innovative solutions to challenges in sustainability, food security, and ecosystem health. Known for his rigorous scientific methodology, mentorship, and commitment to advancing fundamental and applied surface science, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mansour Afshar-Mohammadian exemplifies sustained research excellence and is a deserving recipient of the Research Excellence Award.
