Education

Dr. Mathur completed his Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Technology, followed by a Master of Science in Geology with distinction. He then obtained a Ph.D. in Geology, focusing on geological and remote sensing investigation of geoheritage sites of Western Rajasthan. His doctoral work laid the foundation for advancing research on geoparks and conservation strategies. His academic achievements show dedication to interdisciplinary approaches combining geology, technology, and conservation science.

Research Experience

Dr. Mathur is currently serving as an Institute Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Indian Institute of Technology, Jodhpur, contributing to sustainable development research in geodiversity indexing, geoheritage promotion, and geotourism. His contributions include developing methodologies for quantitative mapping using GIS tools, studying significant geological formations, and proposing geopark frameworks. He has also been recognized with multiple best paper presenter awards in national and international conferences.

Book Chapters

Dr. Saurabh Mathur has contributed significantly to the INTACH volume on potential geoparks of India through three important book chapters. The first highlights Jaipur, Rajasthan, identifying its geological formations and cultural heritage as a candidate for geopark recognition. The second emphasizes Ajmer, Rajasthan, focusing on its geoheritage and potential as a national geopark site. The third explores Jodhpur, Rajasthan, documenting one of the world’s largest terrestrial acidic volcanism regions, its Ediacaran fossil sites, and the combination of natural and cultural heritage attributes. Collectively, these chapters strengthen the scientific foundation for geopark development and geoheritage conservation in India.

Conference Participation

Dr. Saurabh Mathur has actively participated in several international and national conferences, presenting research on geoheritage, sedimentology, remote sensing, and sustainable development. Internationally, he presented on morphometric analysis of outcrops in the Barmer Basin, Ediacaran fauna of the Jodhpur Group, landslide threats to geoheritage, and the significance of the Siwana Ring Complex for geopark development. Nationally, his contributions span groundwater sustainability, precambrian geology, paleo-channels, and advances in data processing, along with symposiums on geology and poster competitions. These platforms highlight his expertise, research excellence, and recognition, including best presenter awards for impactful scientific contributions.

Awards

Dr. Mathur has received multiple awards, including best paper presenter awards at symposiums and international conferences on geology and sustainability. These recognitions highlight not only his research excellence but also his ability to communicate science effectively to academic audiences. His achievements at a young stage of his career underline his potential for further international recognition.
