Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pauline Wokwenmendam Nguet | Microstructure and Properties | Women Researcher Award
Institute for Mining and Geological Research | Mount Cameroon Observatory | Cameroon
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pauline Wokwenmendam Nguet is a highly respected scientist in the field of microstructure and material properties, with specialized expertise in petrology, geochemistry, magmatism, and volcanology. She is affiliated with the Institute for Geological and Mining Research (IRGM), Centre for Geophysical and Volcanological Research, and plays a key role at the Mount Cameroon Observatory, where her work supports both scientific advancement and societal safety. Dr. Wokwenmendam Nguet’s research is centered on understanding the microstructural, mineralogical, and geochemical characteristics of igneous and volcanic materials, with a strong emphasis on how these properties reflect deep geological processes, magma evolution, and tectonic environments. Her work integrates field investigations, laboratory-based mineralogical and geochemical analyses, and advanced microstructural techniques to reveal structure–property relationships in volcanic and plutonic systems. She has made significant contributions to the study of the Cameroon Volcanic Line, including magma genesis, hydrothermal alteration processes, melt inclusions, and mineral transformations, providing valuable insights into volcanic evolution and associated geological hazards. In addition to her fundamental research, she is actively involved in applied geoscience activities such as volcano monitoring, seismic risk assessment, and environmental impact studies related to mining and natural hazards. Dr. Wokwenmendam Nguet has participated extensively in international scientific collaborations, conferences, and workshops, strengthening global knowledge exchange in Earth and material sciences. She is also deeply committed to scientific reporting, capacity building, and mentoring, contributing to institutional research development and the advancement of women in science. Through her sustained scientific contributions, leadership in volcanological research, and dedication to understanding material microstructure and properties in complex geological systems, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pauline Wokwenmendam Nguet is a highly deserving recipient of the Women Researcher Award.
